Boiler on the rocks?!

Boiler on the rocks?!

Yes, I’m a dad! And I have an obligation towards future generations to keep up the dad jokes. So when I have this opportunity, I just cant miss it. So, it’s been Christmas and New Year’s Eve holiday here. Wonderful time to spend with family and your hobbies. If you have followed my previous blog posts, you know that I got my N scale railroad up and running again. I have obviously spent a lot of time there and having a lot of fun with it. But we have not only run train and working with TrainController to get all…

2 major problems

2 major problems

A month has passed since I started to set up my old n-scale model railroad again. It’s not been as straight-forwards as I thought it would be. Getting the tables up wasn't a big deal. I found one bridge that was kind of broken and is missing a small part, but that's something I can repair and rebuild. One track was slightly bent as it was sticking out and must have bumped into something. And that was also very simple to fix. Then I started to connect everything. All cables were saved so it was just a matter of finding…

Back in the game

Back in the game

Seven years! It’s been seven years without my N-scale railroad. Ok, so let’s travel back to 2017 and explain what happened. At the beginning of 2017, my wife started her own company. As it takes a long time to start up something new, we had to keep the costs down and one way to do that was to run the company from home. And for that, she needed space. So we decided to take the room that was dedicated to my railroad and use that as her primary office space. Sad, but still the right call at the time. So…

Rebuilt half the layout

Rebuilt half the layout

Ok, so it has been ages since the last update. But that doesn’t mean that there haven’t been progress on the layout. To summarize it, it have been one step back and two forward. During November, I got all tracks in place, all turnouts connected and everything up-and-running. Problem was that I was very happy with half the layout, and quite unhappy with the other. It was no fun to run trains on that part. No sceneries I looked forward to build and just an unsatisfying feeling when I looked at it. So after a couple of weeks of thinking,…

Restart after summer

Restart after summer

For a number of month, this website have been offline due to DDOS attacks and other activities that destroyed the fun of having a website of your own. So I just closed it down. But I’ve really been missing about writing of my railroad activities so I decided to give it another try. My last post was about 6 month ago. During that time, I’ve installed a roundtable together with some engine sheds on my N-Scale railroad. Also doing some rework of those buildings, painting and weathering them. I first tried with the Peco roundtable, but I had problems with…

Started with landscaping

Started with landscaping

Over the past couple of weeks, I have not done that much work on the railroad as I hoped for. Spring is coming, and with that allergies. So productivity is kind of low to be honest. And I also made a decision to not continue with laying tracks for the freight parts in the harbor, but instead focus on landscapes in the area between the two stations. It’s kind of boring with mayor holes in the landscape between the tracks. And I and my son can still run our trains between the hidden yard and the two stations, so adding…

27 Digital locomotives

27 Digital locomotives

The past week have not been focused on laying tracks, designing PCB’s, connection wires an all other fun things you do when building a model railroad. Instead, I have unpacked one hug box of trains and wagons that have been in storage since I moved to my new house. And boy was I into a fun exercise with cleaning wheels, engines and so on. But that was not the worst thing. I had seven engines that didn’t run! How horrible. So I opened them all up to try to find the problems. Two of them where fairly easy to fix…

Servos, cables and electronics

Servos, cables and electronics

As some of you may have understood, I've working on the smaller station right now. And this past week was focused on all the electronics that is needed for the servos and block feedbacks. So I started with creating servo holders in my workshop. 12 of them in total. Well, I just needed 11 to be honest, but I wanted one extra to measure turnout positions for the fiddle yard that I will start with after the smaller station. I continued with mounting the servo holders under the turnouts, and measured the end positions for the servo arms. That's a…

Servo holder and the smaller station

Servo holder and the smaller station

Söndagens MJ aktiviteter var fokuserade på två olika saker. Dels att Last sundays RR activites was focused on two parts. Number one was to create the 12 servoholders that will be needed for all the turnouts at the smaller stations. Kind of boring work to create them, but on the other hand it's something you do once and then their made. So buckle up, turn on some good music and start using all those powertools we all love so much These new servoholders will be used for the turnouts that I also put into place today. The moment, when you…

Tracks to the smaller station

Tracks to the smaller station

So I have finally started with laying the tracks for the smaller station. As I didn't document very good for the larger station, I have decided to do that now instead. All the fotos are taken and I will soon start with a dedicated page on this web for how I'm doing it, the different materials, tools and so on. Stay tuned.. But It do looks like that I need to replace one of the turnouts. Miss from my side during drawing of the layout. The angles for the tracks to the platforms will not be correct. So I will…
